DESCRIPTION

The Preservation Papers is part of the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy Architecure & Historic Preservation Collection, an all-encompassing archives recently donated, organized and made accessible by JC Landmarks to the general public in The New Jersey Room of the Jersey City Free Public Library.

The Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy Architecure & Historic Preservation Collection will be brought online in phases and will consist of the following components:

* The Preservation Papers, a consortium of seminal architectural and preservation history and theory texts, rare books, periodicals, and newspaper articles. The newspaper articles, derived primarily from local 19th and 20th century newspapers, will be divided into special sections searchable via finding aids, including Local Architects, Politics, Historic Neighborhoods, African-American History, Sacred Spaces, Stained Glass - to list just a few!

* Photographic plates and prints, color slides, compact discs, and postcards (this section of the collection will be named for a historic figure in local photographic history)

* Architectural and archeological artifacts (this section of the collection will be named for a historic figure in local architectural and/or archeological history)

AVAILABILITY

Currently only the collection's non-circulating architectural and preservation history and theory texts are available to the public. See "Downloads" below to obtain the growing list of titles now available for in-library study!

REMARKS

The Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy Architecure & Historic Preservation Collection represents nearly 25 years of hard, in-the-trenches research - research utitlized to help save endangered architectural monuments in Jersey City.

Landmarks, we have come to learn, cannot be fought for without making the case for preservation. And history does not come running: we must dig, unravel, spread words of architectural significance. This collection is proof of our efforts and accomplishments.

Most excitedly, the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy Architecure & Historic Preservation Collection will continue to swell as we move forward into the next preservation period of citizen-led advocacy.

- John Gomez, JCLC Founder
