Late-19th-Century House in Jersey City — Demolished

A stately late-19th-century house was torn down this week on Glenwood Avenue in the McGinley Square district, a few blocks south of Journal Square — another casualty of Jersey City's residential teardowns by developers and LLCs.

The Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy has been speaking out against the uptick and daily loss of Jersey City’s irreplaceable landmarks and sites of cultural significance. To us, every building lost in our historic neighborhoods speaks to the ongoing attitude in City Hall: that centuries-old architectural fabric is expendable in the name of progress.
