Award Categories

  • Excellence in Preservation Award

    This award recognizes the recent restoration, rehabilitation and revival of a Jersey City building, structure or object which exemplifies a high regard for the original resource's historical integrity, materials and character.

  • Adaptive Reuse Award

    This award recognizes the recent adaptation and reimagination of a monumental building, structure or object which exemplifies a high level of architectural creativity, sophistication and respect for the original resource’s historical fabric, form, program and presence.

  • Architectural Craftsmanship Award

    This award is given to an individual artist or multi-person studio, firm, workshop, atelier or school who has recently completed an ambitious preservation project that demonstrates a supreme mastery of traditional art, architectural and construction craft methods and materials.

  • Theodore Conrad Preservationist Award

    Named after Jersey City’s most influential preservationist, this award recognizes a local community campaign or organized effort that brilliantly exemplifies the essence of grassroots historic preservation.

  • J. Owen Grundy History Award

    Named after Jersey City’s great historian, this award recognizes an individual, organization or institution for a work or project that captures and chronicles Jersey City history through a written or visual medium.

  • Preservation Initiative Award

    This award recognizes the recent spirited efforts by an individual, organization or institution to recognize, appreciate and promote Jersey City’s most overlooked and underrepresented historic resources, places and people.

  • Jersey City Legend Award

    This award recognizes a person who has made a significant contribution to Jersey City’s culture, history and identity over a lifetime of experience, contributions and achievements.
