In honor of PRESERVATION MONTH 2024, the Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy invites you to join us for a walking tour of the charming Journal Square! Join local historians John Gomez and Mandy Edgecombe of JCLC on a journey spanning over 350 years in our tour Square to Square! The exploration begins at Journal Square, a central transportation and commercial hub since the turn of the last century.
Tour Highlights:
Trace the original street grid of Bergen Square that dates back to 1660, and discover the area’s history before colonization.
Visit The Museum of Jersey City History housed in the historic Apple Tree House, one of the oldest residences in Jersey City dating back to circa-1740.
Learn about notable figures and founders of Jersey City’s past with visits to two historic cemeteries.
Experience the past and present culture of the transportation and shopping hub that is Journal Square and discover the evolution from the Hudson and Manhattan Railroad to PATH.
