Celebrating a Captivating Evening of Heritage and Inspiration at City Hall

Celebrating a Captivating Evening of Heritage and Inspiration at City Hall

We are thrilled to share the resounding success of our recent video screening event at City Hall, a momentous occasion that marked the debut of our Oral Histories series. With an impressive turnout of approximately 100 attendees, the event was a true celebration of our community’s commitment to preserving our cherished heritage.

The evening’s luminary was none other than the remarkable Mrs. India Nicholson Edwards, a living testament to the passage of time and the enduring spirit of civil rights activism. At 104 years young, she was the real star as the audience watched her extraordinary life journey, intricately woven into the fabric of Jersey City’s architectural markers.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our dedicated board members, especially our Oral History Team – Chelsea Castro, Mandy Edgecombe, and Nathalie Kalbach. Special thanks also go to India and her family, whose generosity in sharing her stories enriched us all. We applaud the creative brilliance of film director Juan Diego Roque of ROQ Initiative and express our deep appreciation to the Jersey City Art & Culture Trust Fund for their invaluable support.

As we eagerly prepare to release the film online in the coming weeks, we invite those who missed the screening to join us to extend an invitation to our upcoming Preservation Award Ceremony, a significant event that helps sustain our organization’s mission to safeguard our historical, architectural, and cultural heritage.

This event wouldn’t have been possible without the collaborative efforts of Councilman Boggiano, Pam Andes, Councilman Gilmore, Erica Walker, Senator Cory Booker, and Councilwoman Mira Prinz-Arey, who graced us with their support and acknowledgment.

Lastly, a heartfelt thank you to our community partners, including Lorena Loayza of the McGinley Square SID and Chicken Delight, a longtime Jersey City establishment, for their generous contributions.

In the spirit of unity and resilience, we look forward to continuing this journey of preservation and storytelling. Your unwavering support fuels our mission and empowers us to create more impactful events and oral history projects. Thank you for being an integral part of our journey! 💙🏛️🎬
